Ballistic
stretch:
This
type
of stretching
technique
incorporates
bouncing.
Basil
Metabolic
Rate
(BMR):
This
is the
minimum
level
of energy
neccessary
to maintain
basic
functions
(the
energy
expended
by the
body
at rest
to maintain
normal
body
functions).
Behavioral
care
services:
Services
that
are
used
in the
treatment
of mental
health
and
substance
abuse
problems
in people.
Beneficiary:
A person
who
is eligible
to receive
benefits
under
a health
benefits
plan.
Sometimes
"beneficiary"
is used
for
eligible
dependents
enrolled
under
a benefits
plan;
"beneficiary"
can
also
be used
to mean
any
person
eligible
for
benefits,
including
both
employees
and
eligible
dependents.
Benefit
year:
The
coverage
period,
that
is usually
12 months
long,
During
this
time,
it is
used
for
administration
of a
health
benefits
plan.
Benefits:
The
portion
of the
costs
that
is considered
covered
services
paid
by a
person's
health
plan.
For
example,
if a
plan
pays
the
remainder
of a
doctor's
bill
after
an office
visit
copayment
has
been
made,
the
amount
the
plan
pays
is the
"benefit."
Or,
if the
plan
pays
80%
of the
reasonable
and
customary
cost
of covered
services,
that
80%
payment
is the
"benefit."
Benefits
package:
A term
that
is used
informally
to refer
to the
employer's
benefits
plan
or to
the
benefits
plan
options
from
which
the
employee
can
choose.
"Benefits
package"
highlights
the
fact
a health
benefits
plan
is a
compilation
of specific
benefits.
Blood
Pressure:
Pressure
within
the
arteries
from
the
normal
flow
of blood
within
the
body.
Board-certified:
Any
physician
who
has
finished
medical
school,
internship
and
residency
in their
chosen
specialty
and
has
successfully
completed
an examination
conducted
by a
group
(or
board)
of peers.
Body
composition:
The
make
up of
lean
and
fat
tissue
in the
body.
Lean
tissue
is considered
to be
made
up of
muscle,
bone
and
organs.
Fat
tissue
is composed
of three
different
fats:
essential
fat,
storage
fat
and
non-essential
fat.
Essential
and
storage
fat
are
both
necessary
for
normal
bodily
function,
while
non-essential
fat
doesn't
really
serve
a purpose.
Body
Mass
Index
(BMI):
A number
that
is representative
to over
or underweight.
This
is based
on a
formula
utilizing
body
weight
and
height.
Brand-name
drug:
A drug
manufactured,
typically
by a
pharmaceutical
company,
which
has
chosen
to patent
the
drug's
formula
and
register
its
brand
name.
